*

You might wonder if it isn´t scary and dangerous to dive with bull sharks. Well, you’ve certainly got a point, as based on….

DIVE SITE OF THE MONTH: CENOTE TAJMA HA – RIVIERA MAYA

Tajma Ha, situated 26 km/ 16 miles south of Playa del Carmen and 5km/ 3 miles south of Puerto Aventuras, was originally named ‘Taj Mahal’ by its explorers, as this cave system reminded them of the majestic and immeasurable beauty of the ‘Taj Mahal’ in India. It has since been “Mayanized” to ‘Tajma Ha’, as ‘Ha’ means water in Mayan.

 *

Impressive light shows on sunny days, a rich decoration of stalactites, stalagmites and plenty of hidden fossils promise a mind-blowing experience for both cave and cavern divers. Haloclines in Tajma Ha´s deeper areas create mirror-like effects, as divers penetrate the layer of saltwater, lying below the freshwater due to their different densities.

 *

You will come across terms like “Sugar Bowl” and “Chinese Garden” during your Cenotes briefing. These are not items of a Chinese menu, but experiences that will leave you

awe-inspired!
