PLAYA DEL CARMEN – THE IDEAL STARTING POINT TO EXPLORE ALL OF QUINTANA ROO´S HIGHLIGHTS

 Playa del Carmen, or just “Playa” as it is also commonly referred to by locals, is a lively and colorful resort town located on the north-east coast of the Yucatan Peninsula.

There are several, vibrant dive sites around Playa del Carmen. Pro Dive International features several dive centers ,

one centrally in Playa del Carmen and others to the north and south of Playa del Carmen, along the Riviera Maya.

Each is recognized with the National Geographic and Green Star awards.

In Playacar, heart of Playa del Carmen,  our dive center is situated right on the beach of the Royal Hideaway and also has a Check-in Point at the Allegro Playacar.

LOCAL DIVE SITES

 

JARDINES

The reef Jardines offers shallow dive, perfect for beginners. The maximum depth is at 12 m with no or little currents. This spot is home to many colorful, beautiful underwater creatures such as lobsters, scorpion fish, trumpet fish, flamingos tongue´s and many more. There can be seen large schools of barracudas and jackfish but also green Eagle Rays and green Moray Eeels.

 

TORTUGAS

One of the most popular and exciting deep dive sites in this area. Relatively flat reef with gradual slop from 15 to 40m (50-130ft), covered with corals and big barrel sponges. It´s recommended for inermediate divers due to medium/strong currents from South to North. It can be encountered astounding number of hawksbill turtles and big fish from barracuda to jacks, cubera snappers, stingrays, green and spotted morays, even bull sharks depending on the  season.

 CEREBROS

It´s dive spot also perfect for beginners due to easy, shallow dive.  It´s located in the north of Los Arcos Reef, in front of Tres Rios. It´s quite further than other reefs but it offers scenic landscape and beautiful arches to swim through.  There are no currents. The marine life consists of coral formations at edge of reef,  lobsters, king crabs, shrimps, moray eels and large variety of reef fish.

MAMA VIÑA WRECK

Mama Viña is an old shrimp boat that was intentionally sunk in 1995, has since developed an artificial reef and today belongs to one of the top dive sites on the Riviera Maya. This dive site is for experienced divers only due to strong currents. It can be explored inside, the depth is about 18-30m (60-90 feet). There are plenty schools of fish to be discovered.

BULL SHARK POINT

Every year during the winter months (Dec – Mar) when the water temperature drops a little, between 2 to 10 of those solitary hunters can be usually seen in the area of Playa del Carmen.  We give you the chance to enjoy this thrilled and fantastic experience by taking a closer look at these incredible creatures.
