Bayahíbe is most probably the best location for scuba diving in the Dominican Republic with vibrant dive sites, including three shipwrecks: Atlantic Princess, St George and Coco. Crystal clear, calm Caribbean waters make it a perfect spot for diving and snorkeling in this area.

There are more than 20 dive sites waiting to be explored in Bayahibe. This small fishing village is located on the south coast of the Dominican Republic and shows off its Caribbean paradise with plenty of amazing dive sites, that are mainly located in shallow depth around 12m/ 40ft, like El Peñon, St. George, Atlantic Princess and Viva Shallow including its underwater museum, among many others!

THE LOCAL REEFS

CORAL NURSERY

The Coral Gardens (Viveros) are located in front of Catalonia Gran Dominicus. The hotel together with Pro Dive International and FUNDEMAR organization are part of a local initiative which focuses on growing new corals and re-planting them in the surroundings of Bayahibe area, and especially in front of Catalonia Gran Dominicus hotel.

Diving in Coral Nursery is a very unique experience as you dive around the fascinating sculptures and statues that were created in order to help the coral growth.  Also, there are many ropes, tables and other structures that support the corals to be created.

The depth is around 10-12 metres, suitable for all dive levels.

 

SAINT GEORGE WRECK

The ship St. George was built 1962 in Scotland to transport wheat and barley between Norway and Americas, used for 20 years and abandoned in Santo Domingo port after. It was renamed St George after the hurricane Georges that hit Dominican Republic (and the whole Caribbean and the gulf of Mexico) in September 1998. In June 1999 the ship was sunk about 800 m / half mile off the beach, it is a great artificial reef, home to schools of many different fish, especially barracudas.

The depth of this dive site is about 30-40 metres.

 

VIVA SHALLOW

Viva Shallow is a vibrant dive site which is perfect not only for beginners but also for certiefied divers and photographers. There is a great variety of marine life and colorful coral reefs. You can admire there seahorses, morays, lobsters and many more. The depth is 7-12 metres.
