Learn moreExperience the clear and mystic waters of an ancient Mayan cenote.
The Yucatan Peninsula is a huge limestone platform where fresh water runs like rivers through underground cave systems. Part of this land collapsed after the last ice age more than 8,000 years ago, creating sinkholes called CENOTES, derived from the Mayan word “Dzonot” which means sacred well and were considered the entrance to the mythical underworld by the ancient Mayas. The dissolved limestone dripping into dry cave passages, over thousands of years formed an amazingly beautiful decoration of stalagmites and stalactites. Thousands of these windows to the water table dot the Yucatan Peninsula providing access to a unique underground system mainly located in the area between Cancun and Tulum on the Riviera Maya.
