Now direct Boat Departures from Cozumel North

Your scuba diver life just became more convenient, as we’ve improved our service for you and now offer direct departures from our dive centers in Cozumel North to the beautiful reefs in the north and south of the island.

While our team is still exploring the best dive and snorkeling spots in the north of the island besides those 3 listed on the map, we already offer departures from the piers in front of Pro Dive’s bases at The Westin, El Cozumeleño and Melia Cozumel. 

It is important to remark that the departures in the North of Cozumel strongly depend on the weather or sea conditions and level of experience of each diver, as the currents can be unpredictable and strong here. For this reason, besides the dive packages in the North we continue to offer transfers to our dive centers in the South, including pier access and lunch at the Allegro Cozumel, either included in your dive package or available at an additional fee.

Dive Sites

Some of Cozumel’s northern dive sites include

1. Cantarel/ Eagle Ray Wall – 21-27m/ 60-90ft

Divers descend along the wall to hang on to a handy cut and wait for the spotted eagle rays to show up. They are usually around all year, however larger numbers can be admired between January and March when they migrate to the cooler waters.

The wall is rich with all kinds of fish, and pelagic species are likely to pass by in the blue.

This dive is for experienced divers, as the currents can be very strong and unpredictable.

2. San Juan – 21-25m/ 69-80ft

This beautiful reef is usually a second dive after Barracuda or the Eagle Ray Wall. On days with calm weather and sea conditions, you will be blown away by the gorgeous fields of finger coral that is home to hundreds of Damselfish, barrel sponges in interesting shapes, schools of French Grunts hiding under the overhangs, and areas with lettuce coral.

Talking about being blown away, on days with unstable weather conditions and rougher seas, you can take this literally, as you will precisely do just that – race along the reef in the fast, strong currents.

3. Barracuda – 27-36 m/ 90-120ft

Believe it or not, this could be your fastest and longest dive ever, as you could easily drift several miles when the current is running fast. Big pelagic species are common, as well as eagle rays, lots of turtles, lobsters, nurse sharks, the endemic Cozumel Splendid Toadfish, French Grunts, crabs and moray eels, but taking photos of them is more than a challenge at that speed. 

Because of the severity of conditions, the Port Captain monitors and restricts recreational diving in this area heavily.
